My freshman year, our SJFC football team won just one game but over the next few years of playing as we built a winning team I forged a forever bond with some of the greatest guys I’ve ever met in my life, sadly weve lost 3 of them. Tom VanHall was our fullback, I called him money because he was guaranteed to get at least 3 yards a carry, nobody ever stopped him at the line. Tom was an awesome physical specimen, strong as a bull with confidence and courage to match his strength, a courageousness that would help him battle disease his last few years. God speed in your next assignment Tom and give a bear hug to Terry and Gibber for us.

I sat in the cubicle next to Tom when I joined First Niagara. We shared many stories about our days at Kodak, many good conversations and many laughs as well. I knew right from the start, the two most important things to Tom; his family (#1) and lacrosse (#2). Everything else came after that. He was a bright spot in our area at First Niagara, and I'm sure everywhere else he was known. He will surely be missed by many.
My sincere condolences to all his family.

We will never forget and be forever grateful for the time you spent volunteering with our Fairport lacrosse teams!! You coached for "cookies" and shared your passion with so many Fairport lacrosse athletes. That passion was your own family, your pets and our Fairport family. You wrote a great book and were a great friend! Thank You big T!!
Love,
Coach Randy Garrett

Tom was a colleague at First Niagara. I enjoyed many a conversation with Tom about kids, lacrosse and his athletic days. He was truly a great guy. May he rest in peace.

I am so very sorry to heat of Toms' passing. We were good friends in high school and I will cherish the many memories.
More recently, when Tom was going through his parents house, he came across some bricks and old milk bottles from my dads' store- Webster Dairy. He took the bottles, filled them with white sand and sealed the tops with red wax. he left them at my house with a nice note! He was a special and thoughtful man!
My sympathies to his wife, children, Joyce and extended family. JoAnne

Tom, you were one of the best friends any person could have. Our years together at Schroeder, being the first class to graduate there are filled with many fond memories. Your athletic abilities were phenomenal. I'm honored to have known you. Your legacies will endure. Rest easy my friend.
