I had the honor and privilege of teaching with Jean for over two decades. She was an inspiration to her colleagues. She set high expectations for her students and watched them work hard to achieve them. Jean didn't know what an eight hour was like..... She came to school early and stayed late. Unfortunately, they broke the mold when they made this teacher.
That was just her teacher side. What a caring, friendly, responsible, dependable person she was and she loved having a good time. This world lost a great person....she can't be replaced.

I was fortunate to have many great educators in my life. Jean was one of the best. She was my fifth grade teacher at Northside school in 1974. She helped me cope with some significant events that happened in my life at that time and I will be forever grateful.
Later on, I was fortunate early in my own career as a teacher to call her a friend and a colleague. We would occasionally ride to school together when a car was in the repair shop. Nothing better than riding into work with your former fifth grade teacher!
My condolences to the entire family. She was an important part of who I am today and I will always remember her.
Fondly,
Mike Fortner

I'm so sorry for your loss. I volunteered with Jean at the Anthony House and she taught me so much. I used to look forward to seeing her because I knew we'd have a great conversation. She will be dearly missed.

I taught with Jean at Northside School. She was always very friendly and congenial to me. After she retired, whenever we happened to run into each other it was always a wonderful feeling to be able to catch up. I will truly miss her. My condolences to all her family members.

I first met Jean when we trained as volunteers at the SBA House in the fall of 1999. We did our first tour together. We were in costume for several occasions at the House and it was a pleasure to associate with her. She was a truly lovely, intelligent and kind person. She will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

My deepest sympathy to your sister/aunt. It was my great privilege to enjoy many happy moments with Jean as a fellow docent at the Susan B. Anthony House. She was truly a lady of grace as she dealt with the health issues these last few years. As a retired teacher myself, I can only imagine the compassion and understanding she felt for the young people she taught. Since I always taught the young children who took our school lessons at the House, Jean seemed sincerely interested in hearing about my experiences with them. She always was pleased to hear how much they knew about the women's movement. I feel we all have been enriched to have Jean as our friend. Rest in peace, my friend, as your suffering is over.

My sincere condolences to Jeans family and friends. In particularly my sister Heather Lauber who was her very dear friend and companion. The three of us took a short vacation to Nigeria Falls, CA at the end of August 2015 and I enjoyed her conversation, knowledge, and humour. I did get to visit her briefly in the hospital during my visit this past August but could only communicate with hand squeezes. I didn't know her well but recognised her strength and determination to get back to full health ~ an extremely brave lady.
Very sincerely, Linda Hurst.
