Obituary of George T. Maynard
George Thomas “Tom” Maynard, 92, of Webster, NY passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY.
George was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 25, 1932, the son of George P. and Emma (Hassey) Maynard. His family moved to Utica, NY when he was a teenager. He attended Utica College of Syracuse University earning a BA in Chemistry. After graduation, George proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Goodrich until his honorable discharge. On June 25, 1955, he was united in marriage with Adeline C. Pilawa at Holy Trinity Church in Utica, NY.
George worked at United Merchants & Manufacturing Corp. and then at Bendix Corp., both in Utica, NY. After accepting a job offer at Xerox Corp., he moved to Webster in 1962 with his wife and daughters where he has since resided. George was a dedicated Xerox employee and worked as a Chemical Engineer Finish Specialist for more than 39 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and devoted parishioner of St Rita’s Church, Webster. George traveled around the world for Xerox and continued to enjoy traveling into retirement, in addition to spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves behind two daughters, Deborah (Richard) Sanza and Karen Maynard; grandchildren, Megan (Dylan) Boyd and Jason Sanza; and great grandchildren, Bilal and Salem Boyd; his sister, Carol Barney, of Springville, NY; sisters-in-law, Maryrose Gal of San Diego, CA and Susan Pilawa of Utica, NY; brothers-in-law, Edward Pilawa of Chesapeake, VA and Casimir Pilawa of UtIca, NY; and many nieces, nephews and friends, including lifelong friends, the Sullivan family.
George was predeceased by his loving wife, Adeline of 66 wonderful years of marriage; parents, Emma and George P. Maynard; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Jacob Pilawa; brother, Richard Maynard; sister-in-law, Delores Maynard; brother-in-law; Ed Barney; niece Kim Barney; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces-in-law and nephews-in-law on the Pilawa side of the family.
George was laid to rest at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Utica, NY on Monday, November 18, 2024. A prayer service was held in the cemetery chapel with the US Naval Honor Guard in attendance. A Memorial Mass, in celebration of George’s life, will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 1:00pm at St. Rita Church, 1008 Maple Dr. in Webster, NY.
